ReCap
NEW: A vision for education and skills at Newcastle University: Education for Life 2030+
ReCap
ReCap is Newcastle University's institutionally supported lecture and event-recording service. It allows audio and visual material, including the presenters' voice, presentation slides and visualised documents, to be recorded and published online in an automated, easy-to-use process.
ReCap is powered by software called Panopto and can be used in teaching spaces to record live events and on personal devices to make recordings at any time.
Uses and Benefits
ReCap is used primarily to record live learning events. However, it can also be used to record other content such as:
- Asynchronous teaching content
- Pre- and post-lecture materials
- Student presentations
- Feedback
- Public lectures and conferences
Provision of recorded content offers a variety of benefits that enhance the education experience including:
- Flexibility - students can access recorded content at any time, allowing them to learn at their own pace and revisit topics covered in live sessions. Educators can create content in any location and where appropriate reuse content with different audiences.
- Accessibility – recordings made using ReCap are automatically captioned, can have audio descriptions added and viewers can replay and pause content.
- Support for learning - the ability to pause, rewind, and rewatch parts of a recording, promotes active engagement with the material. ReCap also offers the option for educators to add quiz questions to recordings to test student understanding of content.
